Roger Anunsen
Co-founder and President of MINDRAMP Consulting, LLC. Roger Anunsen is a brain health educator, consultant and cognitive intervention coach who, since 2001, has been applying brain science breakthroughs to real-life challenges faced by older adults. After a 26-year career as a Public Defender and private practice attorney, Roger found a new passion he calls “a second wind,” working to promote brain health among older adults. While working at an assistant living community, Roger invented MemAerobics, a first-of-its-kind cognitive intervention program that was soon the subject of a clinical trial. Following a peer-review, the study, MemAerobics: A Cognitive Intervention to Improve Memory Ability and Reduce Depression in Older Adults, was published in 2003. The research confirmed the positive brain health benefits of the MemAerobics program. “I saw people come alive when they understood, really understood the hope and potential that brain research was offering” said Roger. In 2005, Roger was hired as a consultant for AARP’s Staying Sharp brain health program. In 2009, Roger and Michael C. Patterson, formed MINDRAMP Consulting, a pioneering company that translates current brain research into practical, behavior-based programs to promote brain health and mental flourishing. Their MINDRAMP Method© was introduced at the First Global Conference on Aging at the University of Oxford and was featured at a sold-out seven-hour brain health seminar at the Smithsonian Institution. in 2018, Roger was named the nation’s top adjunct college instructor by the Association for Gerontology for Higher Education. He created and teaches innovative gerontology courses including The Aging Mind, Cognitive Activity Design, and Applied Legal & Policy Issues in Aging. Roger is a also a popular coast-to-coast speaker who broke new ground with his TEDx Talk, The Power of a Smidgen: Applied Brain Science. Roger is a co-author of the ebooks, STRONG BRAINS, SHARP MINDS, COGNITIVE ACTIVITY DESIGN and THE COGNITIVE WELLNESS PLAYBOOK. |
Michael C. Patterson, MALS, CPC
Co-founder and CEO of MINDRAMP Consulting, LLC My thinking and imagination have been deeply influenced by the study of neuroscience, cognition, psychology and evolutionary biology. My experience directing the Staying Sharp brain health program for AARP taught me how to interpret scientific research and helped me understand why certain approaches to brain health work, while others fail. I am committed to turning real science into plain language that can be understand by anyone and into practical programs that can be implemented by everyone. After more than two decades of experience developing innovative programs for large, national organizations, I transitioned from employee to entrepreneur. I founded MINDRAMP Consulting with Roger Anunsen in 2009 to fully explore how to translate hard science into practical programs that help keep brains healthy and minds sharp. I have recently added certification as a life coach to my portfolio of skills. My objective is to empower people to invest in the long-term capacity of their creative minds. Huge advances in neuroscience show us how to protect and strengthen the brain. Similar advances in the evolutionary biology and psychology help us understand how to use our minds more creatively and effectively to achieve success. Interestingly, I find that my early career as an actor and director has equipped me with insights, sensitivities and skills that are hugely useful in my current work. The through-line that connects theatre to work on brain health is a fascination with human behavior. All inquiries into the mysteries of human behavior lead to the brain. The more we know about the brain and how it works, the better equipped we are to control and civilize our behavior towards others - and ourselves. |
